Red Dune Safari: Quad Biking, BBQ, & Shows – A Real Review

Red Dune Safari

Alright, if you’re thinking about hitting up the Red Dune Safari with all the bells and whistles – quad biking, grub, and some live entertainment – it’s almost certainly worth getting the real lowdown, right? No fluff, no salesy nonsense, just an honest look at what you’re getting for your money. I mean, there are so many tours throwing themselves at you, that it’s tricky to decide which one actually delivers what it says it will. After doing this myself, I can definitely break down exactly what was cool, what wasn’t so cool, and whether or not it’s something you should consider. So, get comfortable, grab a cup of whatever you’re drinking, and let’s get straight to it.

What’s the Big Deal with Red Dunes, Anyway?

Red Dunes

Basically, before we even get into the safari thing, it’s arguably important to talk a bit about these red dunes, too, as they’re not just your average sand piles. You see, these dunes have this slightly rusty color because of the iron oxide concentration in the sand. That is why they are quite striking, especially during sunset when the light just hits them in a really unbelievable way. Honestly, you feel like you’ve walked straight onto the set of a movie, right? The particular area that most of these safaris operate in is called Al Hamar, and it’s known for, well, those gorgeous, ruddy-looking dunes that are seemingly so iconic to the area. They give you these fantastic views and a photo backdrop that will certainly blow up your Instagram. I suppose, more or less, if you’re gonna do a desert safari in Dubai, hitting the red dunes is almost the way to go for the wow factor alone.

Quad Biking Through the Sands – Is It Worth the Hype?

Quad Biking In Desert

Quad biking… that activity could be the part everyone gets super excited about, or it might be kind of worried about, or that is just me. Generally, the safari I opted for gave the chance to ride these four-wheeled machines for around 30 minutes. I guess you might think that does not sound that long, but trust me, bouncing around on sand dunes for that amount of time can be surprisingly tiring. And that can be actually more tiring in that weather, too. Typically, there’s a guide that leads the way, and honestly, you definitely need them. Those dunes might appear innocent, yet, they can be a bit tough to tackle if you’re not used to riding on sand. As I was saying, for beginners, they will show you the ropes and will usually make sure you don’t do anything too crazy, that sounds good. However, arguably more experienced riders can definitely have some fun opening up the throttle and getting a bit of speed going. That is why the adrenaline rush is kind of unmatched as you zip around, kicking up sand and taking in the amazing scenery. Still, in fact, I would recommend wearing sunglasses or goggles as, obviously, the sand gets everywhere. That said, make sure you listen to the safety instructions so that you do not hurt yourself. So, overall, this activity is really fun and memorable.

BBQ Under the Stars: More Than Just a Meal?

BBQ Dinner Under Stars

Right, after all that quad biking business, that, usually, you’re pretty hungry. And that’s exactly where the BBQ dinner comes in. Honestly, this wasn’t just any kind of boring barbecue; it’s actually a full-on spread of different kinds of grilled meats, salads, and even some veggie options, too, I believe. That is why it definitely got something for everyone. They arrange the seating in these pretty traditional-style setups, that gives you, almost, that Bedouin camp vibe, which seems cool. In the same way, the stars above you begin twinkling. Obviously, there’s that, too. Honestly, it made for a memorable eating environment. On the other hand, sometimes the food quality is a little different. Yet, generally, I would suggest that the meats are properly cooked and all the food seems fresh and tasty, too. Anyway, it really adds to the whole experience to eat yummy food in that setting.

Live Shows: Fire Dancers and Belly Dancers Under the Night Sky

Fire and Belly Dancers

As a matter of fact, you have those live shows after the BBQ dinner, too. That could be the most entertaining part of the evening. Generally, they feature everything from belly dancing to Tanoura dancing and fire shows, of course! I want to say, the belly dancers might be skilled and add a bit of traditional culture to the lineup. Whereas the Tanoura dance… honestly, this is where the dancer spins around for what seemingly feels like forever, wearing this ornamented skirt, is really mesmerizing. Moreover, you can not actually forget the fire dancers either, that might have you on the edge, or maybe that’s just me. Honestly, watching those dancers manipulate fire in those cool and thrilling ways is pretty memorable. Clearly, these performances aren’t just about entertainment, too; that, arguably, offers a small look into Emirati culture, that seems very awesome. Typically, the quality of the performances could be varied depending on the tour company you end up booking with. At the end of the day, the goal is that, yet, all of that stuff should give you some kind of authentic entertainment that is going to be something to remember, too.

Other Activities: Sandboarding, Camel Rides, and Henna Painting

Camel Rides

Also, some tours might include a few other small experiences to make the adventure, perhaps, feel more rounded. Almost like that, those things typically involve something along the lines of short camel rides. While those do not last long, this probably might be a pretty great chance to say that you actually have ridden a camel in the desert, which is something most of the tourist love and brag about, if they have. Moreover, they will almost definitely offer a chance at sandboarding, that, is where you’re getting on a board and sliding down those sand dunes, just like snowboarding but on sand, naturally. Even though, that doesn’t exactly sound simple. But it might actually be pretty great. Similarly to that, there might just be opportunities for things, almost like, getting a henna tattoo, that does not hurt. As a matter of fact, those extras tend to vary in the different tour packages. That’s precisely why, that is so worthy to just have a small gander at the brochure before actually getting that trip.

What You Should Bring

Sunscreen And Sunglasses

Still, that can depend on what part of year you’re booking for, obviously. Obviously, a couple essentials can take any good trip and put it to an unbelievably great experience, of course. In short, if it’s the dry season and super shiny with sunshine, it could be an amazing opportunity to make sure you’ve applied lots of high SPF sunscreen because there’s not an unbelievably large amount of shade available. Similarly, that, you should bring things, almost like sunglasses, too. Even though, you almost definitely should bring, literally, something to shield the sun away in any possible way! Likewise, something else which can literally bring any of those adventures alive are cameras. Moreover, do not only consider, possibly, any cell phone for little video memories. But possibly, to also grab one of the smaller, handheld cameras you might actually have around just sitting about.
